Comeback Medvedev Claims First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.
Success also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.
His counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was concluded.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, supported by an better serve.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the final five points to take the lead.
Both players exchanged break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour championship, took control to force a final set.
He defended four early opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Suitably, he earned the title with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a return after a lengthy match.
